Stop Practicing Avoidance! Essential Assertiveness and Confrontation Skills for Supervisors

Workplace conflict almost never just goes away. In fact, when supervisors ignore it, feelings of anger, resentment and frustration escalate, resulting in turnover, poor productivity, slumping morale – and possibly even physical violence.

Why do so many supervisors let this happen? The answer is simple. They don’t have the tools to defuse conflict effectively – so they avoid it. The obviously hurts the organization, but many supervisors don’t realize how destructive it is for their own careers. For anyone in a leadership role, the ability to confront problems and handle conflict is NOT optional. It’s a must-have skill.

This session will give supervisors the confidence they need to resolve conflict before it spirals out of control. Our speaker will explain:

  • The 3 stages of a conflict: from mild annoyance to overt battles!
  • The 5 styles of management conflict and how identifying the appropriate style for the situation is critical to leading conflict resolution.
  • Why confronting an issue does not have to be unpleasant; instead, it should be viewed as a learning situation where you assess, identify, evaluate and solve the problem.
  • How to take your emotions out of the equation even when faced with angry or abusive people .
  • The 3 Don'ts when in the mix of a conflict negotiation
  • How to psyche yourself up for "the talk"; setting the stage so you're relaxed and feeling confident.
